One surprise after the other for Ikaros/Esperos who is a newcomer to the A2 League, but managed to stand on the top of the division, after the big win against Iraklis. The coach, Aris Likogiannis, talked to sepk.gr about the secret of the team's success and much more.


The experienced coached analyzed the game against Iraklis (89-61) by saying "it was a game like any else. We were better in the biggest part of the game and we got a fair win. When the lead was getting bigger we started believing that we can cover the margin of our defeat in the first round. We went for it and we took it".

To add: "we didn't expect to win so easily. We were expecting a close game. Iraklis until this Saturday had lost only three times, but one point and three points".

He didn't talk only about the unexpectedly easy victory, but also about the surprisingly great years his team is having. "When we built the team our goal was to stay out of trouble. From there we made the best possible run. From the friendly games in the pre-season we realized that the team has potentials. As you keep on winning, your appetite is getting bigger and bigger. So that's how we reached a point where we found ourselves going after the ticket to the A1 league".

Referring to the secrets of success he underlined that "the first has to do with the financial stability in the team. The club is running perfectly in every aspect and we don't face any problems. Our only concern is basketball.

The second secret has to do with the choices we made during the summer. We got the right players in the right spots. The team has "grown" together and the chemistry is ideal".

He concluded by saying: "the A2 league is a very competitive league. There is a great battle at the top and at the bottom of the standings. We have 12 games left and nothing is granted".
