Cheryl Burnett

Burnett1.JPGCheryl Burnett is considered one of the most innovative minds in college basketball, with a fascinating and successful career as the Head Coach of Southwest Missouri State - SMS (1987-2002) and Michigan (2003-2007). She was the first woman to receive a full athletic scholarship at the University of Kansas (1976-1980). Some of her accomplishments include: leading Missouri State to nine regular season conference titles (six consecutive), playing in ten NCAA postseason tournaments and in two NCAA final four championships, selling out the Missouri State arena with more than nine thousand fans attending Lady Bears' games, and consistently being among the nation's highest in attendance,  receiving regional and national coaching honors, coaching for USA Basketball and in the Olympic festival, inducted into the Missouri Hall of Fame in 2000, coaching Jackie Stiles, all-time leading scorer in the NCAA with a record 3,393 career points, 2001 WNBA rookie of the year.

Coach Burnett's career with Missouri State was 319-136 (70% winning in 15 seasons). She has used one of the most dominating defensive systems in college basketball history.

 

 

 

 

John Margaritis

Head Coach / University of California at Riverside - Women's team

rp_primary2_margaritis_mugshot.jpgJohn Margaritis has been coaching the women's team at the University of California at Riverside for five seasons and has taken the team to never-before-seen heights.  He     averaged 17.2 wins per season with  two NCAA Tournament appearances,  winning two Big West Tournament titles and one Big West Conference regular season title.  

In 2006-07  John Margaritis earned the 2007 Big West Coach of the Year Award.  Prior to UCR, he has been involved in basketball programs at Northern Arizona, University of Nevada, Fresno State, Cal State San Bernardino and Northeastern Illinois University.

 

 

 

 

 

Mike Adras

Head Coach / Northern Arizona University - Men's Team

adras_mike_2.jpgMike Adras has led the Northern Arizona University men's basketball to success on and off the court in his nine years since taking over the reigns of the program. In  the last three seasons he set new standards for excitement and accolades with three Big Sky Tournament Championship game appearances and back-to-back Big Sky Conference regular season titles.  

Adras has led the program into the postseason in eight of his nine seasons as a head coach.  He has won over 150 games over that span and is the second-most winningest coach in school history.

Head Coach Women's National Team

Kostas Missas is presently the head coach of the Women's National team; just recently the team finished in 5th place in the European Championship, the highest placement ever, earning a spot in the next  World Championships.  His record in his tenure as a Head coach is 35 wins - 19 losses. He has also served our national squads by coaching the Junior Men's team during the European Championship of July 2009 and earned the gold medal with a record of 8 wins and 1 loss.

Coach Missas played basketball in Panionios basketball club and Panathinaikos and a member of  the National Men's team with 46 appearances and 217 points.  He is a professor at the University of Athens - Physical Education Department

Attorney at Law - Asst. Professor and Director of the Sport Management Graduate Program at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville

Anastasios Kaburakis prior to his academic career practiced law and served the Greek Basketball Federation and FIBA on several legal and policy matters. He coached basketball at Anatolia College of Thessaloniki, Aris Basketball Club, the U18 and U16 women's national teams of Greece, as well as Indiana University. He is still an active member of the Greek Basketball Coaches Association. He has published articles and presented research on International Comparative Sport Law, NCAA Compliance, particularly pertaining to international student-athletes, international transfers, recruiting, amateurism, sport betting, coaches' contracts, institutional liability, intellectual property, and other legal and policy applications in sport. He serves as an advisor for various sport governing bodies and international sport consulting firms. The recommendations of his doctoral dissertation in 2005 have been incorporated in the 2009-2010 NCAA legislative cycle, introducing a more equitable and fair treatment of international student-athletes' cases by the NCAA. Cooperating with various NCAA member institutions, conferences, governance committees, and law firms, he continues his legal research and policy scholarship toward further service to student-athletes, coaches, and administrators in the field.
